Immigrants Bring Fresh Flavors to the Free Library
Video: Euna Lee, Shane Dunleavy
Philadelphia hosted the Global Food Festival on September 15th to welcome immigrants to the United States. 110 participants representing 11 countries, including Russia, India, Morocco, and Sudan, came to show their dishes at the Parkway library. Let’s Talk Philly and the Welcoming Center, two Philly-based community groups, started the festival to build a bridge between immigrants and the wider city through the universal language of food. For them, the global smorgasbord represents a collaboration between government officials, organizations, and community leaders to help immigrants—now and in the future.
The Temp’s Euna Lee and Shane Dunleavy dropped by the Parkway Library to sample the international cuisine and talk to the event’s organizers.
