Road to Recovery: Housing Program in North Philadelphia Gives Residents Second Chance

More than 1,200 people died from drug overdoses in Philadelphia in 2020… just three shy of the record number of overdose deaths set three years earlier. While the city has been battling a “twin-demic” of increasing gun violence and the coronavirus – the opioid epidemic is still very much an ongoing issue.

For those just coming out of treatment, local nonprofit Philly Unknown is expanding its outreach by opening recovery homes in North Philadelphia to help people make an easier transition back into society. The project, titled “Triumphant Transitions”, is providing housing for those who may need a second chance at life. The Temp’s Nicolle Majette reports.
